Prepping and Painting Instruction for "Funkenstein"

Prior to Painting

  • Clean pieces in warm soapy water.

  • Clean seam line using an x-acto knife, sand paper or Dremel tool (Air bubbles can also be picked away with an x-acto knife).

  • To conceal any rough looking seams, hobby putty can be applies and smoothed out with a sculpting tool or fingertip and sanded lightly.  Be sure putty is dry before sanding.

  • Once the seams are sanded and cleaned, the model should be primered using white or grey spray primer, allow primer to dry.  For best results leave over night.

Painting Tips

Begin painting "Funkenstein" by using a dark green colour for the face and body, a lighter shade of green with yellow highlights could be used over wrinkles, nose, brow bone and shoulders.  "Funkenstein" is a partier, to create this look, white and yellow paint can be used for the eyes.  As a finishing touch, reddish coloured strokes around the lash area is suggested to augment the look.  The teeth are smoke stained yellow, a combination of brown, yellow and white can be used to create this effect.

His Afro is black gloss with blue highlights and mat black wash.  The various sores are dark pruple/red and bright red.  For the finishing touches , colour the stitches in black and his bolts in a silver chrome and rusty colour.

"Funkenstein" comes with his own base and name plate.  These items can be made to look like weathered stone using white, grey, green, blue and yellow colours.

All paints used must be water-based acrylics.  Specialty paints gloss enamels for stitched, sores, teeth and eyes.
